In June, 2010, the Port of Chelan County acquired a 2.45 acre waterfront site at the foot of Orondo on Columbia Riverfront Park. The Port’s goal for the property is to stimulate private investment along the water front and support downtown Wenatchee.
Currently the Port is cooperating with adjacent property owners to create a master plan for the neighborhood incorporating efficiencies through joint planning. The planning area includes approximately 8 acres including the City of Wenatchee’s 3 acre site formerly used by the public works department north of the Port’s new acquisition and 2.75 acres owned by a private developer to the south. The joint plan will consider covenants, utility easements, shared access, shared parking, and any other suggestions put forward by members of the group.
All options are open, but neighborhood development might include a hotel, restaurants, offices, residences, and a public market and farmers market hosting special activities and events.
